Evolution Of Modern Management

As a manager, we should analyse what is happening. Because only that makes you updated and to survive in this practical world. To do so, we even must study how the modern concept of management evolved from the initial days to now. So, here we shall discuss about the evolution of modern management.

  • In classical approaches given by Taylor and Fayol, they saw humans as machines. The entire management is based on rule system. Most importantly they saw human force as material but humans as immaterial.
  • So, then after many years of sufferings, there evolved another theory called human resource theory. In this theory, human force and human beings are treated as materialistic. The business world started looking them as an important resource, but even here the human beings are given importance as if they are giving importance to machines.
  • Later from human resources theory, the management system evolved into human relations theory. This theory says that maintaining a relation with each other, especially among all levels of people in the organisation. To maintain relation with the people, one should respect each other, so the people in the organisations started respecting each other. By respecting each other people try to build network, which is most important in the management field.
  • Later, when people started respecting each other, they come to know how to create an environment in such a way that effectiveness and efficiency of the human beings can bring out. So here we can say effectiveness and efficiency theory as the modern management theory with well-defined humanitarian approach.

So, there is one more concept which consists of three different kinds of theories which
explains the different management systems. They are:

         THEORY – X
In theory X it is stated that you can’t trust people and should be continues control over the
               people.
               THEORY-Y
In theory Y it is stated that people can be trusted at all times and the management should
give freedom to people to choose what they want to do.
               THEORY-Z
Theory Z is a combination of both theory X and theory Y. here it is stated that trust the
people only some extent but not beyond that. Theory Z can be said as modern
management theory. it emphasis that “to get what you want give the others what they
               want.”

                                                                                                                                U.Keerthi Mounika
